This site near the border with Mexico usually has mild or warm weather over the "cold season," but droughts and occasional hard freezes produce a "dead of winter" look. Uncultivated areas are dominated by mesquite which is also deciduous.

Sign Post Forest

The Sign Post Forest of Watson Lake was started in 1942 by American soldiers. Homesick while building the Alaska Highway, some of them posted signs with name and distance of their resident towns. Since the war, visitors have continued to donate.
