Late in the era of dinosaurs, an uncommon type of magma intruded the even more ancient sedimentary rock of what is now central Arkansas. This magma was deficient in silicon but rich in many uncommon or rare minerals. As a result, the Magnet Cove area attracts rockhounds and mineral collectors. The sign shown here describes a magnetite quarrying operation which has produced more than lodestone. Join discussion...
