Sign Post Forest

The Sign Post Forest of Watson Lake was started in 1942 by American soldiers. Homesick while building the Alaska Highway, some of them posted signs with name and distance of their resident towns. Since the war, visitors have continued to donate. Join discussion...

In the satellite view, a cozy old house can be seen next to the Arby's. But in the GSV, the house is GONE. At least some of the trees have survived. Among them is a Norway Maple, one of the very few specimens of its kind in Calgary, and perhaps the largest. Calgary's wildly fluctuating winter temperatures are very hard on most non-native trees.
